About
wastEturn (Sustainable Waste and Resource Management to Support the Energy Turnaround) is a joint research project conducted within the National Research Program Energy Turnaround (NRP 70) in Switzerland, primarily led by the Chair of Ecological Systems Design at ETH Zurich. The project focuses on optimizing the Swiss municipal solid waste management system to support the transition from non-renewable to renewable energy sources while reducing overall consumption. Its research is divided into four subprojects that assess environmental performance, industrial waste-to-energy systems, financial viability, and societal barriers to implementation. By integrating expert knowledge and stakeholder perspectives, wastEturn aims to develop robust, socially acceptable strategies for sustainable resource management and improved energy recovery.
